This is the first of what will be many postings or, as I like to call them, rants. My main focus will be on federal Canadian politics and the Conservative Party of Canada. There will be some personal stuff here too, however it will be minimal. I am second-year political science and law student at Dalhousie University in Halifax. I am a member of the Conservative Party of Canada and a strong supporter of their message and leader, Stephen Harper, our newly elected Prime Minister.
Why Canadian politics?
Politics surrounds us every day and in some way, shape or form it affects our lives on a daily basis. Decisions made by the government through legislation and policy decisions shape our country into what it is today. Politics are relevant and important and that is the reason why I talk about it. To people who say that the decisions made in Ottawa don't affect me and that this is the reason why they don't care or don't vote I say this: Parliament may not affect what you think you're everyday life is. A life of playing video games and watching TV and complaining about the ins and outs of everyday life, school, jobs, etc. But when it comes down to what actually matters such as issues of health care, education, child care, national defence, foreign affairs, taxes, etc. shape the important issues of your life and the decisions made by the House of Commons will affect how these issues play a part in your life. I don't understand why a person wouldn't care or be interested in the world of politics. It is the one area of life that in some way encompasses all the others.
I think I will end with that statement. You know how I feel, you know what I think, now depending on your own views and opinions you may feel that what I say is correct or you may think that I'm way off base. Whatever you think is your own opinion and I will respect that so I hope that, in turn, you will respect mine.
