LIBERALS CONTINUE TO RUN INTO TROUBLES

While the federal Liberal party is in the midst of an important leadership race there continue to be blemishes appearing around every corner. After the Super Weekend a little while ago where all of the ridings chose their delegates that will be going to the leadership convention in December to vote for a new leader Michael Ignatieff appeared to have a solid grasp on over 30% of voters. There are eight candidates still left in the race and the only one close to Ignatieff is Bob Rae with 19% which is surprising seeing that the 4 people who have dropped out of the race since it began have thrown their support behind Rae. After these numbers were published Ignatieff felt that his numbers would continue to grow and he would end of as leader of the Liberal party. All I can say is that he's trying his hardest to prevent that from happening.

Since the weekend Ignatieff has pulled off the brilliant move of saying that Israel is guilty of war crimes in their attacks on Lebanon over the summer. I'm not even going to get into Stephen Harper's reactions to these comments yet. First, these comments have cost him many key supporters in his campaign to become the next leader of the Liberal party. The co-chair of his campaign has withdrew her support from Ignatieff along with a few others.

Harper has since stated that Ignatieff is anti-Israel along with many of the other Liberal leadership hopefuls for their comments. Ignatieff and other candidates have fought back against Harper about his comments but Harper is not backing down. Ignatieff has since retracted his comments by saying that if there were war crimes committed that is for the UN to decide, not him. Many Liberals have since said that they do not support Ignatieff's views on Israel. Harper has maintained that the only leadership candidates that have opposed Ignatieff's comment were Scott Brison and Joe Volpe and has commended them for it.

Michael Ignatieff has done a hell of a job of shooting himself in the foot following Super Weekend and has tried to regain support after his comments. Along with his statement that war crime were not for him to decide he has decided to go to the Canada-Israel Committee to learn more of the attacks and the reasons behind it. That's a pretty good idea he's got there... let's go and actually learn about the issue after I've charged a nation of war crimes. Maybe it's just me but I think learning about the issue before speaking out against it would have been a better idea.

It is inconceivable to me as to why he would say something like that after having such a huge following, unless he actually believes it which is an even bigger problem in my mind. So now, Ignatieff is faced with the challenge of rebuilding his support after these comments to become leader of the Liberal party. And then, if he is able to become leader of the Liberals he has the fun job of trying to rebuild support from the Canadian people after all of the scandal of when they were in office. Michael Ignatieff has received the right to be... BONEHEAD OF THE DAY.

The Liberal Pary was very Pro Isreal. Now that the Liberal party is not in charge, the Isrealis attack because of an opinion. So, in the long term, why be pro Isreal if they attack the minute your no longer power?

Canadians don't have to like Isreal or Isrealis. The government may do so for political reasons, but we don't have to agree with an invasion of a neighbor, murder of Canadians on a peace mission, or Isreal's strange thinking that they are special in the middle east - they're not. They are just as dangerous as the Hammas or Hezbollah not only because they have controlled these but make deals with them in the middle east.

The PM made a huge error using the Liberal Party race to say that Canadians must be pro Isreal. We don't have to be pro Issreal and he should worry about how long he'll be in office. He is this stupid?

"Ignatieff is faced with the challenge of rebuilding his support after these comments to become leader of the Liberal party."

I'm glad I read your journal because I hadn't heard of this previous to.
I'm also glad neither of us support the Liberal party.
... What a statement from this guy!!! He sounds like the kind of guy we'd be friends with, Darce, if only to laugh at him after he says stupid things (case in point - Ray!)
But - oh wow. I don't even think Ray could say something like this.
Yeah, good luck to him about the gaining support (that he will never gain back.)
We should see Scott Brison win this!!! A Nova Scotianer, graduated from Dal, and he's fairly young. And Stephen Harper proved to us that the young-ness is a good thing in our political system!

BACK FROM ANOTHR HIATUS: OVERVIEW

It has been an atroceous three months since my last posting. I apologise for this and offer up no excuse for my absense from this place. I had final exams to worry about, and work of course but nothing that could have prevented me from posting a little more often then every three months. And now I'm two and a half months into a five month long summer with no reason not to do this so here I am. So what has happened since March 23rd that deserves honourable mention on my beloved post. Well the World Cup is currently entering the 2nd round of competition and I know what you might be thinking: who cares about soccer? It's a funny thing the World Cup, it is like nothing else. Even people who never watch or follow soccer of any form seem to find themselves entangled in the World Cup whenever it comes around. While it is the most popular sport in the entire world it is not as popular in North America where we're more focused on hockey, football, baseball, basketball, and golf. And...
BACK FROM MY RANTING HIATUS It's been awhile since the last time I posted a rant on here and for that I apologize. Of course there are reasons behind my procrastination. Spring break, lots of birthdays, school, and work have all thrown their hats at me in recent weeks but now I am back... and better than ever. Today's rant will not have a specific focus other than catching up for both you and I on Canada's and the rest of the world's events. And what a busy couple of weeks it has been. There have been numerous international, national, and provincial headlines that have caused some serious controversy, change, and reaction from all over. So I will not procrastinate any longer and get right into it. The David Emerson appointment and crossing of the floor still remains to be an issue here in Canada as people have demanded his resignation or a byelection. There was a mock byelection that was supposed to put pressure on Emerson and the Conservatives to give in, which of cour...
SEPTEMBER 11th, 2006: 5 YEARS LATER Here is the transcript of Prime Minister Stephen Harper's speech yesterday: Good evening. Today is the 5th anniversary of the terrible events of September 11th, 2001. I am speaking to you from the Hall of Honour in the Centre Block of Parliament. With me are some Canadians whose lives have been touched by 9/11 in ways that most of us can't even begin to imagine. Men and women who lost loved ones in the attacks on the World Trade Centre. Tanja Tomasevic, who lost her husband, Vladimir; Danny Eisen who lost his cousin, Danny; and Maureen and Erica Basnicki, who lost their husband and father, Ken. I asked them to join me because words alone are not enough to express what needs to be said today. As we pay tribute to the 24 Canadians who lost their lives on that infamous day five years ago, their family members remind us that they were real people with real lives. Lives that were cut short - deliberately so - by a murderous act of terrorism. Like...
