THE WEASEL, THE RAT AND THE SEPARATIST

Yesterday, the Liberals and the NDP signed a coalition deal with the support of the Bloc Quebecois in hopes that they will force a non-confidence vote in the House of Commons and bring down Harper and the Conservatives. Then they will form a coalition government with Stephane Dion becoming the Prime Minister until the Liberal leadership convention in May. The proposed cabinet would include both Liberal and NDP cabinet ministers. And the Bloc, although not officially a part of the coalition will be supporting it.
Currently the non-confidence vote is scheduled for next Monday, Dec. 8th. I would like to point out exactly how absurd this "coalition" actually is. We've all lived through Liberals governments in the past, unless you've been born in the last three years, and it can sometimes be tolerable. But for the NDP and the Bloc to have any say in the way this country is run is ridiculous. Only the Liberals could hatch a deal with a separatist party allow them some control over the country.
The NDP can be a great opposition party and I would rather them be the Official Opposition than the Liberals but again, they should not have a say in the way this country is run. The party with the most seats and the most support is the Conservatives and Stephen Harper, therefore, they are and should continue to be the government. Say what you will about it being a minority government and that they only got about 40% of the popular vote, the result is still the same.
Stephane Dion, who has just recently led the Liberal party to one of its worst turnouts in a hundred years, should be one of the handful Liberal leaders who never become prime minister. He campaigned in the last election campaign saying, "We cannot have a coalition with a party that has a platform that would be damaging for the economy. Period." He was referring to the NDP in this statement and I'm sure his feelings were even worse of the Bloc.
And now, here he is, less than two months later doing the exact opposite of what he said he was going to do. I bet if he campaigned saying that he would form a coalition with the NDP and the Bloc he wouldn't even get the chance to do so because the result would not be a Conservative minority... it would be a massive majority for Harper.
The leaders of the three opposition parties, Dion, Layton, and Duceppe, have signed a letter to the Governor General stating their intentions of forming a coalition and if they form a government it will last no less than 18 months. Harper is doing, and should be, everything he can to prevent this from happening because once those three parties are in power absolutely nothing will be accomplished. The vote is set for next Monday and we'll see what happens between now and then.

why, all of a sudden are we shocked when a politician acts in a way which contradicts a campaign promise? heaven forbid they do something that could possibly be in their own self interest....its the name of the game. if you're not in power, you're going to do everything possible to get there. can you honestly say that if harper was put in this position, he wouldn't do the exact same thing? o wait, he already tried....

BACK FROM ANOTHR HIATUS: OVERVIEW

It has been an atroceous three months since my last posting. I apologise for this and offer up no excuse for my absense from this place. I had final exams to worry about, and work of course but nothing that could have prevented me from posting a little more often then every three months. And now I'm two and a half months into a five month long summer with no reason not to do this so here I am. So what has happened since March 23rd that deserves honourable mention on my beloved post. Well the World Cup is currently entering the 2nd round of competition and I know what you might be thinking: who cares about soccer? It's a funny thing the World Cup, it is like nothing else. Even people who never watch or follow soccer of any form seem to find themselves entangled in the World Cup whenever it comes around. While it is the most popular sport in the entire world it is not as popular in North America where we're more focused on hockey, football, baseball, basketball, and golf. And...
BACK FROM MY RANTING HIATUS It's been awhile since the last time I posted a rant on here and for that I apologize. Of course there are reasons behind my procrastination. Spring break, lots of birthdays, school, and work have all thrown their hats at me in recent weeks but now I am back... and better than ever. Today's rant will not have a specific focus other than catching up for both you and I on Canada's and the rest of the world's events. And what a busy couple of weeks it has been. There have been numerous international, national, and provincial headlines that have caused some serious controversy, change, and reaction from all over. So I will not procrastinate any longer and get right into it. The David Emerson appointment and crossing of the floor still remains to be an issue here in Canada as people have demanded his resignation or a byelection. There was a mock byelection that was supposed to put pressure on Emerson and the Conservatives to give in, which of cour...
SEPTEMBER 11th, 2006: 5 YEARS LATER Here is the transcript of Prime Minister Stephen Harper's speech yesterday: Good evening. Today is the 5th anniversary of the terrible events of September 11th, 2001. I am speaking to you from the Hall of Honour in the Centre Block of Parliament. With me are some Canadians whose lives have been touched by 9/11 in ways that most of us can't even begin to imagine. Men and women who lost loved ones in the attacks on the World Trade Centre. Tanja Tomasevic, who lost her husband, Vladimir; Danny Eisen who lost his cousin, Danny; and Maureen and Erica Basnicki, who lost their husband and father, Ken. I asked them to join me because words alone are not enough to express what needs to be said today. As we pay tribute to the 24 Canadians who lost their lives on that infamous day five years ago, their family members remind us that they were real people with real lives. Lives that were cut short - deliberately so - by a murderous act of terrorism. Like...
